Plant factory for demonstrational purposes
Background:The Lansingerland municipality hosts one of the largest greenhouse areas in Europe. Wageningen University & Research is used to investigate all aspects of horticultural production in its 7,500 m2 of greenhouses at the research facility in Bleiswijk. Current plans include the completion of a vertical farm by summer 2020.
Vision:The indoor farm is suited to investigate a number of products and services with respect to their resource efficiency, sustainability and public appeal. The list of potentially interesting crops as well as the analysis of results and recommendations will be done in collaboration with the municipality of Lansingerland (NL). In the FoodE project it will serve as a location for communication and dissemination due to its close connections with the local growers, producers, and suppliers. The program will facilitate training and dissemination workshops on closed plant production which will be accessible to over 300 local growers and other agricultural specialists. Moreover, dissemination and promotional events will be open to over 2,000 visitors per year. Dissemination will focus on inspiration, education and indirect, future job creation.

Vertical Farm (daglichtloze ruimte waarin diverse teelten plaatsvinden) voor demonstratiedoeleinden
Achtergrond:De gemeente Lansingerland herbergt één van de grootste kassengebieden van Europa. Met het Wageningen University & Research Business Unit Glastuinbouw & Bloembollen in Bleiswijk (gemeente Lansingerland) worden in een oppervlakte van 7.500 m2 kassen uiteenlopende aspecten inzake teelt in kassen en openteelten (bloembollen) onderzocht. De huidige plannen omvatten de voltooiing van een Vertical Farm in de zomer van 2020.
Visie:De Vertical Farm is geschikt om een aantal gewassen en de daaraan gekoppelde teelttechnieken te onderzoeken op gewasrespons, duurzaamheid en bewustwording betreffende kansen die het biedt voor de samenleving op korte en lange termijn. De lijst met potentieel interessante gewassen en de analyse van resultaten en aanbevelingen wordt uitgevoerd in samenwerking met de gemeente Lansingerland (NL). In het FoodE-project zal het dienen als locatie voor demonstratie en communicatie vanwege de nauwe banden met de aanwezige lokale telers, producenten en leveranciers in Lansingerland. Het programma maakt trainingen en workshops over Vertical Farming mogelijk, welke toegankelijk zullen zijn voor meer dan 300 lokale telers en andere tuinbouwspecialisten. Bovendien staan de demonstratie- en promotie evenementen open voor meer dan 2.000 bezoekers per jaar. Demonstratie zal gericht zijn op inspiratie, opleiding en leidt indirect tot de banen ‘van morgen’.
