Description: The ongoing changes in climate, global food production and supply systems affect consumers, Industry and planet itself. These changes can have an impact on food safety systems and pose sustainability and development challenges. The highest standards of food safety belong to the key policy priorities for the European Commission. The policy importance also reflects in the recent initiatives of the European Commission such as Farm to Fork strategy under the Green Deal and the future EU programme for research and innovation Horizon Europe, with its specific mission on Soil health and Food. It is not only the EU who recognizes the importance of this topic. Food safety also plays a fundamental role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the main objectives of the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition. By declaring 2020 the International Year of Plant Health, the UN recognizes that when plants are kept healthy, people, societies, and economies thrive. What is the role of research and innovation in delivering these objectives? How can we strengthen the adaptation to climate change and improve the tolerance of crops and livestock to stresses, drought and floods? How does the Joint Research Centre (JRC) stimulate innovation and protect consumers and citizens? What is the added value of the EIT Food, and how can it help to build a better food system? The main objective of the webinar is to address these questions and bring together researchers, innovators and industry representatives to exchange and share their experiences and research results and discuss the current challenges in field of Food Safety.
