Urban Farming at SALUS Space

Background:

The Bologna city council owns an area, which is undergoing regeneration and that will be devoted to the promotion of intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, capacity building and income generation in the framework of the EU project “SalusSpace” (funded thanks to UIA initiative).

Vision:

Available infrastructures include a rooftop area that could be converted into a garden and climate-controlled shipping containers that can be adapted to host indoor farming activities (e.g. for production of mushroom, algae, microgreens, tropical vegetable crops). The project aims to create job opportunities, promote citizen involvement and stakeholders in training activities, dissemination and promotional events. The pilot will also be integrated by a detached demonstration unit (hosted on the premises of UNIBO, where research and demonstration activities on improved technologies and management for vertical farming systems will be conducted. The vertical farm prototype at UNIBO will also be used for promotional, training and dissemination activities connected with the MyLocalFoodE initiative.
